EnviroWiki for local initiatives
The primary purpose of EnviroWiki.org.uk is to compile local (and wider) environmental activity in order for people to find out what's going on around them. The hope is that as well as reaching out to new audiences, EnviroWiki will also be used for sharing best practice and seeking out overlap.
Because of its wikiness, EnviroWiki allows for individual initiatives to keep the information about their activities accurate and up-to-date. EnviroWiki is designed to be useful for regular and irregular involvement. So, once you're entry is up, it is down to you to choose how much more you wish to contribute. However, as a general rule, the more you tend your EnviroWiki content, the more likely it is people will return.
Getting started
- First, register or log in. For help registering see Help:Registering and logging in
- Next, find out whether an entry for your local initiative already exists, either by searching for it in the search box (left) or by exploring existing EnviroWiki content.
- If you are pretty sure no entry exists, create a new EnviroWiki entry
- For help getting to grips with basic wiki language and formatting, see Help:Basic formatting. For other step by step guides to using EnviroWiki, see Help:Step by step guides.
What to include
- The name of your initiative and where you are based
- A description of your activities
- Details of how others can contact you
- A link to your website or more information
Where to put it
- Please make sure that you file your entry into one or more categories.
For local initiatives, begin by adding them to the county in which they are based. The relevant category will be called Category:"County" environmental organisations.
Example category tags:
[[Category:Oxfordshire environmental organisations]]
[[Category:Hackney environmental activity]]
- If your initiative is relevant to a particular town or postal area, search or browse for the most applicable one and add the correct category tag to your entry.
For more details on what is meant by 'category tags' and help learning how to add your entry to a category, see Help:Categories
