EnviroWiki for organisations with a network of branches
EnviroWiki aims to be a tool for those already involved with the growing environmental movement by providing a space for them to share their activity with those around them. The hope is that as well as reaching out to new audiences, EnviroWiki will also be used for sharing best practice and seeking out overlap.
EnviroWiki's locally-focused category system is particularly suited to organisations with a network of local branches. The category page can be used to introduce the organisation and its underlying aims, while also housing all individual local branch or campaign pages.
Because of its wikiness, EnviroWiki allows for individual initiatives to keep the information about their activities accurate and up-to-date. The more you tend your EnviroWiki content, the more people will return.
Getting started
- First, register or log in. For help registering see Help:Registering and logging in
- Next, find out whether an entry or category for your organisation already exists, either by searching for it in the search box (left) or by exploring existing EnviroWiki content.
- If you are pretty sure no entry or category exists, the first thing to do is to create a category for your network. See here for help with Creating a new EnviroWiki entry and for help with categories
- For help getting to grips with basic wiki language and formatting, see Help:Basic formatting. For other step by step guides to using EnviroWiki, see Help:Step by step guides.
What to include (either on the category page, or individual branch page)
- The name of your organisation and where you are based
- A description of your activities
- Details of how others can contact you
- A link to your website or more information
- Links to other relevant EnviroWiki entries
Where to put it
Please make sure that you file all entries and categories into one or more (other) categories, to stop them from getting lost.
- Add your organisation's category to the top category, Category:Organisations and initiatives by adding the tag [[Category:Organisations and initiatives]] somewhere on your category page.
For more help, see Help:Categories.
- Add the individual branch pages to your organisation's category by adding the tag:
[[Category:<Organisation name>]].
- If a branch of the organisation is relevant to a particular town or postal area, search or browse for the most applicable one and add the correct category tag to your entry.
For more details on what is meant by 'category tags' and help learning how to add your entry to a category, see Help:Categories.
Example local initiative entries
So far we do not have any networks of organisations on EnviroWiki. If you would like help becoming the first, please email help(@)envirowiki.org.uk.
