Help:Indexing EnviroWiki entries

From EnviroWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Indexing EnviroWiki entries efficiently will help keep EnviroWiki tidy and easy to use. It will also help others to find your entry more effectively.

Creating new entries on EnviroWiki (like other Mediawiki wikis) works by first searching for your page to ensure it does not already exist. Then, when the search comes back with no results, follow the instructions to 'create this page'. See here for more help creating a new EnviroWiki entry.

Because of this way of working, it is much easier to pick the name before you begin writing the text for the entry. If you do make a mistake, or want to change the name of the page after you've begun writing, see 'Changing the name of an EnviroWiki entry' (below).

Indexing is most crucial for the Local Action key category, but will be useful for all entries.

Indexing Local Action entries

If your entry on local action has a specific area that it applies to, we ask that you put it at the beginning of the name of your entry. For example, recycling points in the postal area BD4 would have the name 'BD4 recycling points'. Another example might be an entry that outlines the environmental policies of your local council. In this case, put the name of the local council at the beginning of your entry followed by details of the content. For example, 'Croydon London Borough Council - Recycling collection'.

Indexing other EnviroWiki entries

For all other EnviroWiki content, we have not yet put in place set guidelines, so please just label it as you think best and don't be offended if we have to change it later.

Changing the name of an EnviroWiki entry

There are two stages involved in changing the name of your EnviroWiki entry.
