From EnviroWiki
EnviroWiki.org.uk is a new form of social network. It uses the same wiki software as wikipedia, yet acts more like a mapping site or traditional social network.
The main spine of the site is geographically based - breaking down UK content into regions, counties and London boroughs. Also running through the site are other, more organically structured categories, particularly suitable for networks and groupings.
Activity and information can be added to as many categories as is suitable, in much a similar way to online tagging. So, if you are involved in any sort of environmental activity - be it a group or network, community or government - add a description in, and see how it can link up to what's already there. Don't be shy!
In the lead up to the 2010 UK General Election, EnviroWiki.org.uk is running an MP profiling project, featuring profiles for MPs / candidates, constituency maps, and details on other (non party political) election campaigns. For more information, please contact us.
Our ideas for how EnviroWiki.org.uk can work also include:
- mapping local environmental activity across sectors, themes and focuses
- strengthening cross-networking between environmental groups
- building support for single issue campaigns
- creating collaborative lists & glossaries
Like all collaborative sites, EnviroWiki.org.uk's success relies on lots of people getting involved.
