Pangea Project - The Story So Far...
08 March, 2009
Oh man... March already. What a crazy few months. Happy 2009 everybody!!! Yep, late on the draw but for those of you who've been there with us you know how crazy it's been. Finally got around to patching up the website a touch. Ceiling's still left half painted, and still waiting on the kitchen, but man have we had some good parties since October. So many more people involved now, doesn't seem right for me to rant every five months when I get to blowing the dust off the website. I think I better let this page flow into a pangea crew blog...

Basically, one day Rosie and I went to check out a studio that was under construction through a friend of ours. When we saw it, it was still a big ball of potential, with a space on the ground floor above it that was being kitted out to be a late night bar. We became friends and got to talking and thought, if we could get a shot we could link up this mint little studio with a live music venue upstairs. There's so much live local talent around here, we thought the place could be awesome if we could create a showcase for that talent. The potential to have quality acts rolling every night without having to shoot out to central. The potential to record it, to stream it online... Well, everyone got exited and we've been given a shot, but dreams are made out of golddust. That's why it's a project though, isn't it?
We met John a day before the project got started. Turns out he's just our kind of crazy. Some busted fingers, day cycles, and a few bottles of rum later the place ends up with a stage and a soundbooth. Looking a little more like the dream, we'll have time to pretty her up later, I hope... We've been running for many weeks now, and it's been quite a few insane sessions getting the sawdust cleared before the gigs go on, but we're still alive and still kicking. We've had so many awesome gigs, thanks to the support of everone passing through the place. We've got comedy rolling now, thanks to Tom. Smitharene and Slepton have been holding it down on Fridays and Saturdays; and Adam's been hooking us up with Jazz gigs that are bigger than us even though no one knows about them yet. Looks like we're getting there...
We'll, it's about a week and a half 'till the launch and the vision is growing clearer. The taps array is set to arrive tomorrow; we're trying to get a kitchen hooked up for Janos to play with; and, hopefully, the first set of recordings will go down smoothly for the launch the weekend of the 10th. We also got a jukebox from our friends for our wedding. I can't wait to fill that with local music and leave it on freeplay. Man I hope this girl flies...
